Here are some highlights of the day: New Delhi: After months of silence, the Delhi High Court has granted the Central government a hearing on its long-awaited draft constitution.
As per the order issued on Wednesday, the High Court will hear a plea challenging the constitution of the newly formed Central Government.
The case is being heard by an administrative law judge.
The Supreme Court is also hearing the plea.
Delhi: A team of police officers has been charged with murder over the death of a 25-year-old woman in the city on Wednesday.
The woman’s body was found in a vacant space in the Gurgaon area of the city.
The police are yet to announce the motive behind her death.
The Delhi Police said the woman’s family members did not lodge any complaint against the officers.
The death of the 25-yr-old victim is being investigated.
The suspect is identified as Sangeeta Mishra, a resident of Rohini area of Gurgaons.
The murder is being treated as a murder case.
Delhi Police Commissioner Shrikant Sharma said the case will be probed under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
The trial will start on January 12, 2018.
Karnataka: The state government has asked the CBI to probe the murder of the son of the Governor of Karnataka and his wife on November 27.
The victim, identified as Prabha, was reportedly assaulted and stabbed to death in his house.
A probe has been initiated by the Karnataka Police.
In a separate case, a man accused of raping a woman in a secluded area of Bengaluru has been arrested.
A police team has been deployed to the area.
Karnakalpuri, in West Bengal, is also on high alert.
The district police have reportedly launched a manhunt for the suspect, identified only as Manoj, who has allegedly raped at least three women in the area over the last two years.
In the capital city of Bengal, a team of officers has also been deployed.
Delhi’s Police Commissioner Satish Kumar said the investigation into the murder case will take time.
In Uttar Pradesh, a woman was raped and murdered in the district of Kanpur on November 24.
Police said a case was registered under Section 498A of the Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) on November 26, which carries a penalty of death by stoning to life imprisonment.
A case has been registered against the man accused.
A woman is being questioned in the case.
The rape case is also being probed.
Delhi-NCR: On Tuesday, the National Capital Region Police (NCR) registered a murder complaint against a woman accused of being involved in a gang rape of a 19-year old woman in North Delhi.
The FIR was registered on November 25.
The complaint states that the girl was staying in the house of a resident and the accused barged into the house on November 20 and raped her.
A PCR team has already been deployed in the NCR.
The NCR Police have also set up a helpline number for the woman.
In Punjab, a police team arrested a woman suspected of having a relationship with a man who had been involved in the gang rape and murder of a man in Jhelum on November 28.
The man had been arrested on November 21 and the victim has not been identified.
A team from the North District Crime Branch is also in the field.
The team has also arrested a suspected gang-rape suspect in Punjab.
In West Bengal too, a case has also come to light, alleging that a man was raped by a man and a woman who were neighbours.
The complainant had been allegedly living with the accused.
The alleged incident took place on December 5 in a residential area in a village in West Panchkula district.
Police are yet looking for the accused and are also investigating the case further.
In Delhi, a young woman was assaulted and murdered by her father and his friend in Gurgaonian town of Tandipura on November 19.
Police have registered a case against the accused, who was allegedly involved in her father’s murder.
The crime is still being investigated and there is no information about a reward.
New Delhi police have issued a stern warning to the public, saying that the death penalty is not allowed in India.
