A federal judge in Portland has dismissed a lawsuit by gun rights groups challenging Oregon’s new gun laws.
The state has taken steps to restrict the number of firearms people can own, but has also expanded access to handguns and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
The suit was filed in June by the National Rifle Association, which is challenging the new restrictions.
It said Oregon’s restrictions are aimed at restricting access to firearms by law-abiding gun owners, who have a right to defend themselves.
The judge dismissed the suit last month after finding that it was without merit and said Oregon has the authority to enact its own restrictions.
The group also said the restrictions violate the Second Amendment, which protects an individual’s right to bear arms.
