A vaccine trial will be conducted in Punjab’s Jalandhar district to test the safety and efficacy of a polio vaccine.
The trial will take place in three phases, the health ministry said in a statement.
It said it will be administered in six villages of Jalandhars district on December 13, 15 and 21, and also on November 20 and 22.
The trial will last for three months.
It is the first time polio vaccine has been tested in Punjab.
India is the only country where the virus is still prevalent.
The disease has now been wiped out from more than 90% of the population.
The World Health Organisation estimates that more than 40,000 people are infected each year in India, and that the virus has killed over 11,000.
