The president has said he will “absolutely” return to the United States, despite reports that he is set to fly back to Florida and his family’s home in New Jersey.
“Aerie reports, but the fact is I will be home in Florida,” Trump said on Monday night, his first day back in Washington.
“And I will do so at a moment’s notice, and we’ll be going to a time and a place that’s appropriate for that.”
Trump’s return comes as he and first lady Melania Trump have been under pressure from Democrats and members of his own party to return to Washington, as well as some Republicans in Congress.
“I think that’s going to be something that’s discussed,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday.
“But I will certainly be able to talk about it at a time when I feel good and I’m not under pressure, so we’ll see what happens.”
He added: “I think it’s going [to be] a really good day, but we’re not ready to announce it yet.”
A senior White House official told reporters Trump will be back at the home in Lake Worth, Florida, and is likely to be back to the White Trump Tower by Tuesday afternoon.
The official said the White house is working on a schedule for his return, which would see him fly back from the state capital of Tallahassee on Tuesday evening.
Trump has been under mounting pressure to return home since the election, which was seen as a major blow to his presidency and a signal of his desire to be seen as president.
Trump will return to Florida on Tuesday after a three-day break, the senior administration official said, and will spend the weekend in New York.
“It’s not going to happen at the last minute, so I don’t anticipate it will be a problem,” the official said.
“There’s a lot of things that have to be done.”
The official added that the president will be accompanied by his wife and two children.
Trump is expected to return at approximately 6:30pm EST (2030 GMT), the official added.
