That’s down from 21,547 cases reported in the first three weeks of September.
But there have been 7,071 deaths.
The CDC said the rate of deaths so far in the outbreak is lower than the global average of 2,891 deaths per 100,000 people per day.
The World Health Organization said the overall death toll from the coronivirus outbreak is 1,068, the highest of any major global outbreak in history.
The latest death toll has now surpassed the death toll for the 2010 pandemic.
